“House of Labrys” – spatial sound performance will take place in Daugavpils.
On September 21st at 4pm and 7pm in Vienības Nams’s Concert Hall within the 12th Music and Art festival "Daugavpils ReStArt 2023" dance performance “House of Labrys”, dance duo IevaKrish and composer Jēkabs Nīmanis, will be hosted.
“House of Labrys” is a story of endless way in the labyrinth of sound and words. It is a spatial sound choreography created by collaboration of artists’ corporation IevaKrish and composer Jēkabs Nīmanis, in order to achieve a present art work experience beyond visual perception.
It is based on the choreography created among and around the audience and the sound following it – short musical units composed by Jēkabs Nīmanis. The process of playing the music its place and the sequence depends on the artists’ dance pattern that cannot be seen. The performers are four dancers who are carrying and conducting electronical musical instruments that are deliberately created for this performance. At the beginning of the performance eyes of each visitor will be tied, and each visitor will be guided to a randomly chosen seat in the room, thus allowing to experience an individual sound scenery.
Choreography is based on an ornament – octagon star. Each visitor is surrounded by eight imaginary corridors for movement with unlimited number of choreographic sound trajectory patterns. The context of the performance is suitable for any person regardless of the sight quality.
