INTERNATIONAL MANHATTAN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
25th Annual Short Film Festival MANHATTAN SHORT, event taking place in Latvian venues between September 22 and October 2, 2022. In Latvia the festival celebrates its 10th anniversary and in honour of the event Latvian young people’s film competition is being organised.
In Daugavpils the event is taking place in Vienibas Nams’ Cafe, 22a Riga street (entrance - from the side of Gimnazijas street). 27 September, 6.30pm and 28 September 8pm.

The festival’s 10th anniversary in Latvia provides an impressive program. The films touches surprisingly many topics ranging from super powers to overcoming relationship obstacles with father or partner. They reveal the events of September 11 from another side – through the eyes of a witness; show the way how to escape judging opinions, social or economic hierarchy; will draw the parallels between protesting fighters for freedom and the young generation.
“Don vs Lightning” starring the famous Peter Mullan, who appeared in Netflix series “Wild World of the West”. Short film “Free fall” is based on an excerpt from a Holandic writer Joris Lujendik’s book “Swimming with sharks”, revealing the finance word. Some of the films tell the personal story of the producers or script writers or are based on true stories. Before the program of Manhattan short, the winners of Latvian competition will be shown.
The Final Ten MANHATTAN SHORT finalists hail from eight countries with films from Scotland, Chechia & Slovakia, Spain, Australia, Finland and Lebanon, alongside two films each from France and USA. These Final Ten Films represent the best short films from among 868 submissions from 70 countries received by MANHATTAN SHORT for 2022, testimony to the enduring vibrancy and creativity of short films worldwide.
MANHATTAN SHORT is a unique event. More than 100 000 people all over the world unite having one aim – to watch and vote for the films finalists.
Finalists will be part of the MANHATTTAN SHORT Oscar Qualifying Run.
Cinema lovers in Latvia and all around the world will become judges. People judge for the best film from the 10 finalists. The votes will be sent to MANHATTTAN SHORT HQ, and the winner is announced on Monday October 23rd in New York. The results are published on www.ManhattanShort.com
In Latvia the festival is organised by producer Stanislav Tokalov. Festival is supported by Embassy of USA and Riga city council. Information on the radios SWH and SWH+.
Films are in English and original language with subtitles in Latvian and Russian.
