Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra will perform in Daugavpils
September 20, at 6pm, Vienibas Nams’ Concert Hall within the framework of VII Music and Art Festival "Daugavpils ReStArt 2018" will perform Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra (conductor Martynas Stashkus) soloists Raminta VAICEKAUSKAITE/soprano, Andrius APSHEGA/baritone.
The Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra grew from the Kaunas Chamber Orchestra, which was founded in 1988. Since 2000 the manager of the Orchestra is Algimantas Treikauskas and the principal conductor is Constantine Orbelian.
The Orchestra has become an inseparable part of cultural life in Kaunas and in Lithuania overall. The orchestra performs more than 50 concerts a year and it has collaborated with the young Lithuanian conductors as well as the masters of classical music Juozas Domarkas, Martinas Staškus, Vitautas Lukočius, Modestas Barkauskas, Vilmantas Kaliūnas and many foreign conductors. The orchestra gives concerts in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Norway, Italy, Germany, Finland, Switzerland, and other countries.
In 2015, the Orchestra celebrated its 10 year anniversary. In this time a number of major and significant projects have been implemented, not only of classical but also popular music. The Orchestra has had the privilege to play with the legendary bands and artists of the world, such as "The Scorpions" and "Electric Light Orchestra", "Smokie", Bonie Tyler, Chris Norman, Robert Wells and Maggie Reilly. The Orchestra has appeared on the stage together with the world-renowned soloists Lynette Tapia (soprano, United States), Elīna Garanča (mezzo-soprano, Latvia), John Osborn (tenor, United States), Jose Carreras (tenor, Spain), Lana Gordon (United States), etc., as well as with instrumentalists Alexander Markov (violin, United States–Russia), Domenico Nordio (violin, Italy), Mario Hossen (violin, Bulgaria), Philipe Graffin (violin, France), and many other highly qualified artists: Dmitri Hvorostovsky (baritone, Russia), Stefano Secco (tenor, Italy), Ildar Abdrazakov (bass, Russia), Dinara Alieva (soprano, Azerbaijan), Aleksandrs Antonenko (tenor, Latvia) etc.
Recordings with the orchestra have been nominated for Grammy award and International Classical Music award. The recording of Verdi opera "Rigoletto" in cooperation with Dmitri Hvorostovsky was nominated for International Professional BraVo Award in Russia, “Classical Album of the Year – 2018”.
