SYLVAIN RIFFLET (Saxophone, clarinet, shruti-box & composition) VERNERI POHJOLA (trumpet) SANDRINE MARCHETTI (harmonium) BENJAMIN FLAMENT (percussions)

Saxophonist, Clarinettist and French composer Sylvain RIFFLET for many years has proven to be one of the brightest representatives of modern French Jazz.

“Troubadours” is a new turn on his way. It is dedicated to the first songwriters who have glorified love; the music is a combination of modal jazz, medieval profane music and repetitive music.

In the new adventure he is accompanied with a Finnish trumpeter Verneri Pohjola a vivid personality of the northern jazz stage with which the saxophonist has worked before. Riffle has described the Finnish trumpeter in a following way – “I like not only his unique sound but the ability to be simultaneously lyric and melodic and sharp, unpredictable and radical. Verneri is a great improviser and our created sound symbiosis is a rare brotherhood with which I want to share with the audience.” Two more bright musicians are involved in the new quartet: percussionist BENJAMIN FLAMENT and a pianist SANDRINE MARCHETTI playing harmonium. This is her first cooperation with Saxophonist. The quartet’s first tourney in the Baltic are offered by the agency Vapaat äänet and the producer Charles Gil and French Institute in Latvia.

The concert is organized by Latvian Culture center in corporation with French Institute in Latvia with the support of Daugavpils City Council.

Tickets: Booking office of Vienibas Nams concert hall, opening hours 4.30pm – 6.30pm, price 5.00 euro.
